About my Photography Gallery

How did this happen?

During the last few months before I completed my computer science degree (at Univ. of Toledo) and got whizzed off into the real world, I took a "fun" class in photography, and I got hooked. Now wherever I go I often find myself looking at things with the perspective of where I might uncover a good photograph. I hope you enjoy what I've been able to create. I still need practice, though. I've probably taken almost a hundred rolls of film containing two dozen pictures each--and most of them are pretty boring. Hopefully I left the boring ones out, but if you notice any, make sure you let me know right away.

Organization is important

I've arranged all these pictures into nine categories. You can choose between them by clicking on one of the nine thumbnails on the previous page. I tried to keep the presentation of the photos as uncluttered as possible. They look best with lots of white space around them, so try to turn off as many toolbars as you can and close any obstructing stray windows.

What do you think?

I tried to say a few things about each picture on every page. I intended to explain how I took them, but instead I started to describe and interpret them. Let me know how you're affected by these pictures, especially if you see them differently than I do.

A few personal things

My e-mail address is if you would like to drop me a message.

Below are a few personal pictures I just stuck here because they don't really belong in any especially aesthetic category. They're just basically neat because they have something to do with ME!

The camera

This is the Nikon F SLR camera which allowed me to take all these pictures (except this one). My dad bought it when he got interested in photography in the late 60's, and then he passed it on to me. After all those years, the light meter still almost works.

The folks

My dad's watching T.V. out of focus, and my mom's grading papers from her sixth grade class. My sister Johanna (not pictured) has just graduated college and moved away, so those two characters pretty much own the house now, if there was any doubt before.

The dog

I was told one of the unwritten rules of photography is no photos of your pet. Well whether it's art or not, I can always appreciate a nice shot of Shadow.

My home

Here's where I grew up! Big house with lots of closets and places to hide if you're small enough. I sure had fun there.
