The City

Being from a small town, I was fascinated by the strangeness of a huge city in decay like Toledo, Ohio. Most of it was pretty ugly. But I spent several weeks driving around the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods, and here's what I found.

Table of contents for this page:

    Riverside
This was taken at dusk after a long day of looking for pictures. The color is great, but it's actually a lonely vacant walkway downtown by the Maumee River.

Moon rising over a poor neighborhood
One of the many run-down falling-apart houses surrounding the city.

    Stray dog
I was really excited to get this picture of a dog. Busy animals never stop moving, and the good shots disappear quickly!

    Old truck
Next to the Ford, a shed has collapsed onto a rusty garbage truck. Typical mangled machinery in an alley.

    Sewer
A little river of rainwater trickling into a sewer. (I was getting a little soaked.)

    Frozen river
A long exposure created the icy-looking surface of the river and really enhanced the colors of downtown Toledo.

    The modern city
Smooth shapes of Toledo's clean shiny skyscrapers and various corporate headquarters. I apologize for the fuzziness.

    Mural
Mural on the side of a school building.

    Downtown Garrettsville
Telephoto view of the center of my town, our only stoplight, straight down the street I live on.

    Technology in the garbage
There are many different things that can be said about this picture. I just thought it was funny. (I put the monitor there.)
